SUMMARY:Excursion - Day trip to Yên Đổ in Ha Nam\, birthplace of poet Nguyễn Khuyến
DESCRIPTION:Day Trip \nWe visit the birthplace of Nguyễn Thắng whose pen name was Nguyễn Khuyến.  He was a famous Vietnamese Confucian scholar\, poet and teacher from the 19th century.  He was born on 15 February 1935 in Yên Đổ commune\, Bình Lục district\, Hà Nam province.  He died on 5 February 1909.  He was educated in Hue at the Imperial Academy. \nHe was both a prominent lyric poet and an outstanding satirical poet. He reached the pinnacle of Nôm  literature. He was the first Vietnamese poet who put realism into classical poems. Among his best poems are a group of three poems about Autumn: Fishing in Autumn\, Drinking in Autumn\, Versing on Autumn which express sadness and loneliness and “Paper Doctor” which ridicules incapable scholars. In addition\, he was one of a few number of upper-class poets who wrote in praise of poor farmers. \nWe visit his family house which is now a fascinating ‘life’ museum in his honour\, cared for by a 75yr old+ family member. It is a beautiful old wooden house which tells the story of his fascinating life and a great way to understand more about the history and society of Vietnam at that time.
