SUMMARY:Excursion and workshop: Vạn Phúc and Vụn Art
DESCRIPTION:For May we plan two x one day excursions – beginning and end of the month. \nToday we visit Vạn Phúc silk village. Vạn Phúc traditional silk is woven from the natural silk material\, giving it a soft\, smooth touch and sophisticated look found nowhere else. May be for this reason Vạn Phúc silk was chosen to make the national costumes during Nguyen dynasty. \nFull day excursion split into two activities: silk collage workshop and village tour. Proceeds go to Vụn Art. \nVụn Art is a wonderful social enterprise founded by inspirational Lê Việt Cường. He established it to teach art and create meaningful much needed employment for the disadvantaged and disabled (who live in/nearby the village). The enterprise uses the scraps of silk that have no use for silk collage-based craft. In parallel Vụn Art also arranges village tours. \nMORNING. 9.20am meet at Vạn Phúc village gate (make own way). The morning is spent at the Vụn Art space for a talk and workshop. A talk by Cường about the enterprise\, the vision\, the difficulties faced\, their projects\, hope and dreams\, information about himself (he is an extraordinary man holding down 4 jobs to self-fund the enterprise). Meet some of his team (some are deaf\, disabled\, downs syndrome etc). Workshop – we each make an A5 silk collage picture. Either have a pre-prepared pack with the shapes cut out already (eg the animal zodiac years) or design your own (A5) picture \nGroup photo with the Vụn Art team \nLUNCH Bring a picnic lunch or have lunch in a local restaurant. Time for some shopping \nAFTERNOON. Village tour. Our host is Ms. Lê Thị Kim Thu\, Chairwoman of the Vạn Phúc Silk Development Company. She will explain the village history\, legends and the unique weaving process (with weaving machine practice). Followed by a village walk/tour and the visit to the temple/places of worship. \nGroup photo \nEND about 3.30pm. Feel free to stay on longer (most places in the village close at 5pm) or make your way home. \nNOTE.  This is a fun excursion (+ see Vạn Phúc in a less commercial/tourist way) plus our chance to support such a wonderful and worthwhile cause with Vụn Art (VTV3 made a short film about them – see link here). \nTo make best use of funds within our standard FVH donation limits and given that Vạn Phúc is easy to reach independently – the plan is for people to make their own way there and back to arrive at the village gate 9.20am. Or meet Stella at Long Bien bus station 8.10am and travel by number 1 bus. More info will be given for those who RSVP. \nMaximum number 22 people \nDonation: \n380\,000 vnd adults \n200\,00 vnd students and children under 15yrs \nProceeds go to Vụn Art \nRSVP to Stella \nThe workshop and village tour will be in Vietnamese and translated by Tra (who is a Vụn Art volunteer) \nPlease follow and like us:Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading...\n\n	Related\n
