SUMMARY:Cultural series - the village communal house its art\, structure and symbols
DESCRIPTION:This is the second of 2 events this month focused on the detail about some places of worship (the first is a tour to explore a specific pagoda\, the second is a study lecture about communal houses in general). \nThe concept of the village communal house in Vietnam is one of thousands of years of history. This structure is seen as a symbol of culture\, spirit and religion of Vietnamese people\, it was the centre of village activity and village life in previous times. Even now\, depending on the location\, the communal house still retains its importance and cultural identity. \nNo doubt you have visited several\, or many communal houses in Hanoi\, the north of Vietnam and/or throughout the country. We are probably all aware of the basics and have the same general level of information but probably know little about the more significant aspects of the communal house\, the structures\, architecture\, forms and variety\, artwork\, symbols and design\, etc. \nThis afternoon’s study lecture is a chance to delve deeper into what makes a Vietnamese communal house in general (bearing mind different ethnic minorities have different styles of communal house).  Our speaker on this topic is art critic Nguyễn Đức Bình who heads up the Đình làng Việt group of scholars who focus on everything to do with communal houses in Vietnam\, as well as other aspects of Vietnamese culture \n \nBình has put together a detailed presentation that looks at the art\, architecture\, design\, structure\, and symbols of communal houses. Through this it should be a lot easier to know what to look for when visiting communal houses and be better able at ‘reading’ the stories they hold. \nThis will probably be in the style of a round table study format as its a chance to discuss the concept of the communal house in dept. \nBình will speak in Vietnamese with English translation \nVenue:  The Dinh Lang Viet group meeting space\, room 107\, house D4\, Trung Tu collective area\, Dong Da district\, Đặng Văn Ngữ street.  Detailed venue information  will be sent to those who are confirmed. \nPlease RSVP to stella@fvheritage.org \nMin 10 max 20 people. \n250\,000 VND pp to cover contribution to the venue\, hosts and refreshments at the end of the talk \n  \nPlease follow and like us:Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading...\n\n	Related\n
