DESCRIPTION:As of 11pm 20 August about 7 spaces left please RSVP asap.  \nEach year guided by the moon’s cycle\, Vietnam celebrates a version of the Christian Old Soul’s Day. On the 15th day of the 7th lunar month Vu Lan day or ‘Wandering Souls’ day is commemorated by the nation when the gates of hell are opened to allow the ghosts and spirits of the dead to return to earth and visit their families and homes. Traditionally a Buddhist festival\, Wandering Souls Day is the second biggest festival in Vietnam. Families make special offerings to the spirits\, they visit the graves of their ancestors\, visit pagodas and burn votive offerings. People seek forgiveness of the sins of the dead so that they can be spared the tortures of hell. Offerings are also provided for the lonely spirits who have no one in order to placate the angry and hungry ghosts. \nThis year Wandering Souls falls on 12 August (15th Day of the 7th lunar month). \nWe are delighted that Dr Trần Đoàn Lâm\, former Editor in Chief of The Gioi publishers and good friend of FVH\, together with the well respected cultural group he belongs to – Đình làng Việt – will host this presentation. \nThe format is a full afternoon – a mixture of powerpoint visuals\, Lâm’s tradmark blackboard and chalk style of presenting\, a perfomance of one of the rituals and making offerings and blessings to our ancestors. \nAllow a min of 2hrs 30 mins up to 3 hours for those who would like stay for the whole event. But feel free to leave if you need to get away earlier. \nThere will also be some refreshments. \nWe hope this will be a special event\, The venue is the Đình làng Việt meeting space which FVH will start using more often as a regular venue thanks to the kind offer from Đình làng Việt. \naddress: (Dinh Lang Viet group meeting space)\, room 107\, house D4\, Trung Tu collective area\, Dong Da district\, Đặng Văn Ngữ street. near Xa Dan lake\, near Xa Dan street. \nSpace for up to 25 people. \n250\,000 VND pp to cover contribution to the venue and offerings for the rituals \nhttps://goo.gl/maps/GknwBmgpBKocUBvK7 \nDetailed venue information on exact location with venue photos will be sent to those who sign up.
