THANKS \nWe welcome back Dr Trần Đoàn Lâm (Editor in Chief of Thế Giới publishers)\, one FVH’s favourite speakers\, for our first talk of the year. For February we will learn about the use of the lunar calendar in Vietnam. \n \nBefore the western solar calendar was adopted\, Vietnam used the lunar calendar to determine when to plant and harvest and when to hold festivals and rituals. Nowadays the 2 calendars coexist and both are followed in life. The lunar calendar is still used to observe seasonal festivals\, special occasions\, and rituals.  The lunar calendar began with the year 2\,637 BC and a lunar month is based on a complete moon cycle of 29.5 days. \nLâm will explain many details including how the lunar calendar originated\, its uses\, (if time the animal years)\, how to read the lunar calendar\, its use in modern Vietnamese life etc….. \nAs always\, talks with Lâm are very popular raising many questions and leading to more discussion and the Lunar Calendar is a wide topic\, so we are allocating up to 3 hours for this talk including Q&A.
