Bookclub for March – “I’m a Woman” by Y Ban
March 9 @ 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
“Y Ban’s I am a woman, the title story of her collection, describes a Vietnamese woman who has been hired to nurse a rich man in Taiwan. When the young woman unwittingly arouses her lethargic master’s libido, she is accused of sexual harassment, punished and fired.” From Huu Ngoc, Viet Nam, tradition and change.
Pham Thi Xuan Ban (aka Y Ban, born in 1961) is a Vietnamese writer of short stories, poet and journalist. She published her poetry on her Facebook timeline. Her books I am Woman, 2006 (I am Đàn bà), Hey, have you really seen anything?, 2011 (Này hỏi thật đã thấy gì chưa đấy?) were put on censorship ban in Vietnam.
After winning International Poetry slam reading in Hanoi, that was organized by French Embassy, she traveled in May 2017 in France to voice her woman’s say, that sometimes restricted in Vietnam by a taboo.
