SUMMARY:Tour - the essence and spirituality of Lang Pagoda (Chùa Láng)
DESCRIPTION:AS OF 4 AUGUST 2-3 SPACES AVAILABLE \nThis is the first of 2 events this month focused on the detail about some places of worship (the first is a tour to explore a specific pagoda\, the second is a study lecture about communal houses in general). \n  \nDating from the 12th century\, Lang Pagoda (Chùa Láng) on Chùa Láng street\, has many accolades: it is one of one of Hanoi’s oldest and most beautiful pagodas\, which was located west of ancient Thang Long Imperial City.  With its symmetrical architectural structure\, 100 compartments\, surrounded by nature and wide green open spaces\, and home to a vast collection of 198 statues\, Chùa Láng is also one of the largest pagodas in inner Hanoi. It is also home to 2 very special sculptures of King Lý Thần Tông\, and monk Từ Đạo Hạnh (who\, by the way\, is said to be the founder of Vietnam’s water puppetry). \nWe are lucky to be able to arrange a private small group tour of the complex to learn about and discover some of the following with Trần Quang Huy\,  Deputy Head of the Management board of Lang Pagoda Relics\, and his team: \n\nThe pagoda’s history and stories\nThe pagoda’s festivals\nThe story of  monk Từ Đạo Hạnh\nIts importance in ancient Thang Long and today\nSome of its architectural features and important statues\nIts grounds and natural environment\nGeneral discussion\n\nNB – this is the current plan but is subject to  Trần Quang Huy’s schedule which we may not get until a 3-4 days before. Hence for those who RSVP please be flexible and understanding in case we need to move it to another day.  In the meantime\, we carry on and plan for this date and time – we will update re. any changes but at the present time it looks OK for this event. \nJust to clarify this is a guided tour of 1 pagoda so not a walking tour of a big area or different routes. We start in one on of the pagoda’s rooms for a chat about the pagoda and its history and then move onto the tour of the pagoda \nMax 10 pax \nPlease RSVP to stella@fvheritage.org \n200\,000 VND pp which covers financial donation to the pagoda and offerings for some of the altars \nVietnamese with ENG interpretation \n  \n  \n  \n©1999 Friends of Vietnam Heritage.
